Brunch. That meal between breakfast and lunch typically enjoyed over the weekend. Sadly, what used to be a special treat has become just another meal during the hustle and bustle of the weekend. SumoMaya and their new chef Roberto Madrid (formerly of Deseo Kierland) are working to change that mentality with SumoMaya’s Bottomless Brunch.

The Bottomless Brunch at SumoMaya is not just a meal. It is a dining experience. This is not your quick turnover brunch. The Bottomless Brunch is an exercise in enjoyment. Rather than just rush through a single entree, the Bottomless Brunch includes several courses to be enjoyed in a more leisurely fashion. For $39 per person, diners will enjoy a vast selection of appetizers, an entree, and dessert along with the choice of beverage (Margaritas, Bloody Marys, Micheladas, or Mimosas). Those refraining from cocktails can enjoy brunch for just $29.

We recently were invited to try out the Bottomless Brunch and enjoyed every minute of it! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and has the perfect brunch vibe. It’s bright, airy, and above all fun! Each course was delicious and picking our favorites is almost impossible! That being said, there were definitely highlights:

  • Smoked Salmon Lox– We love smoked salmon! This dip was something you might expect to see on a bagel but SumoMaya serves theirs with toast points. What was unique about this dish was the addition of pico de gallo on top of the dip, as well as the yuzu in the cream cheese. Both showcase the unique and exquisite talent that chef has for fusion food.

  • Bread Migas + Chorizo (scrambled eggs, Mexican chorizo, toasted bread crumbs, aji panca aioli)- The migas and chorizo are the ultimate in comfort breakfast food. Perfectly executed, we really had to force ourselves to stop eating them to save room for the other items.

  • Wagyu Steak + Eggs (crisp wonton, poached eggs, coconut miso sauce)- The steak was as delicious as you’d expect Wagyu to be. However, more exciting to us was that the poached egg was absolutely on point. We’ve said numerous times that brunch spots in the Valley have a tough time with poaching but this was not the case.

  • Bunelos (cinnamon crisps, sweetened condensed milk, dulce de leche)- The bunelos were a delightful end to our meal. Crispy and sugary, they were the perfect conduit for the dulce de leche. We couldn’t stop ourselves from nibbling on them despite how full we were.

We really enjoyed our Bottomless Brunch experience at SumoMaya. It was nice to sit on the patio and savor the moment rather than wolfing down brunch and rushing to do our Sunday errands. We highly recommend visiting and simply enjoying the time with your friends and/or family. Where do you like to brunch? What is your brunch style? We would love to know! Leave your comments below!
