Haddonfield Horseshoes: A Halloween Inspired Recipe

Halloween Recipes | Midwest Recipes | Halloween | The Geeks have recreated a Midwest favorite with a spooky twist! The Haddonfield Horseshoe is inspired the movie Halloween and is perfect for the holiday! 2geekswhoeat.comIt’s almost Halloween! Did you know that Shudder will be showing Halloween (1978) for 24 hours straight on ShudderTV for free! Shudder asked us to create a recipe especially for their marathon and we’ve come up with a really fun one! We had a ton of fun creating a recipe for the recent Halloween sequel and have looked forward to re-visiting Haddonfield. This time our recipe is for a mid-west favorite with a spooky twist, Haddonfield Horseshoes!

In the move Halloween, “the year is 1963, the night: Halloween. Police are called to 43 Lampkin Ln. only to discover that 15-year-old Judith Myers has been stabbed to death, by her 6-year-old brother, Michael. After being institutionalized for 15 years, Myers breaks out on the night before Halloween. No one knows, nor wants to find out, what will happen on October 31st, 1978 besides Myers’ psychiatrist, Dr. Loomis. He knows Michael is coming back to Haddonfield, but by the time the town realizes it, it’ll be too late for many people.”

In case you aren’t familiar, Horseshoes are an open-faced sandwich originating in Springfield, Illinois, United States. They consist of thick-sliced toasted bread (often Texas toast), a hamburger patty, French fries, and cheese sauce. We thought this would be a fantastic recipe to re-create for Shudder’s Halloween marathon. Not only that, but you can select your own favorite hot sauce for that perfect “blood spatter.”

We hope you enjoy our Haddonfield Horseshoes! Looking for more of a challenge? Head over to our friends at Eat the Dead and try your hand at a Michael Myers Cake! The Geeks have recreated a Midwest favorite with a spooky twist! The Haddonfield Horseshoe is inspired the movie Halloween and is perfect for the holiday!

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 3 cups Frozen Seasoned Crinkle Cut Fries
  • 1/2 cup Cheese Whiz
  • 2 slices Texas Toast Sized Bread
  • Hot Sauce of your choice (We used Frank's Red Hot)

  • Prepare fries based on package instructions. (We baked ours, see note at the bottom)
  • Meanwhile, form 2 patties from ground beef.
  • Grill to desired temperature.
  • Toast bread.
  • Heat cheese in the microwave in 15 second increments until runny.
  • Top toast with burger, followed by fries, then cheese.
  • Drizzle with hot sauce for a "blood spatter" effect.
  • Serve.

Instead of frying your fries, bake them in the oven to make them slightly healthier. Adding an extra few minutes in the oven makes them super crispy!
