Happy February! Well the last day of it anyway! We’re continuing with our sponsored geeky recipes for Phoenix Public Market. This month we took inspiration from Raiders of the Lost Ark. We love the Indiana Jones series and when we saw dates at one of the booths at the market, we were reminded of Sallah’s line from the film, “Bad Dates”. This and a few other factors led us to create our recipe for Sallah’s Date Spread.
Now in case you have been living under a rock for the past 30 or so years, Raiders of the Lost Ark follows “Dr. Indiana Jones, a renowned archeologist and expert in the occult, who gets hired by the U.S. Government to find the ark of the covenant, which is believed to still hold the Ten Commandments. Unfortunately, Hitler’s agents are also after the ark. Indy and his ex-flame Marion escape from various close scrapes in a quest that takes them from Nepal to Cairo.”
Our recipe for Sallah’s Date Spread really happened by happenstance. While we were cruising around Phoenix Public Market, we were trying to figure out a recipe that could highlight some of the wonderful winter citrus we get in Phoenix. We were really coming up empty handed until we noticed a booth with dates. We mixed them with some Arizona Honey, pistachios, and oranges. This combo creates a delicious spread perfect for topping tea cookies or even bruschetta!
