3 Ways to Drink Like Freddie Mercury Inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody“One of the most discussed films coming out this fall is Bohemian Rhapsody. When we were asked to come up with a recipe for it we had other ideas. We did a bit of research and instead of creating a cocktail, we found out what Freddie Mercury liked to drink. There is definitely something for everyone here! Not only that, but read on for a chance to win screening passes to Bohemian Rhapsody!

“Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.”

Initially, we toyed with the idea of creating a cocktail based on things Freddie loved. However, we found a great article written by his former personal assistant, Peter “Phoebe” Freestone. In it, he discussed the things that Freddy would drink. They were: Bohemian-Rhapsody-Drinks-1

  • Tea– “His preferred brand of tea was Twinings, and always Earl Grey. He would have a cup beside his bed every morning at 9 am, with a little milk and two sugars. He would often have 3 or 4 cups during the day, always the same.”
  • Champagne– “Afternoons and early evenings were the time for Louis Roederer Cristal champagne.”
  • Vodka Tonic– “Generally, his drink of choice for evenings was Stolichnaya vodka and Schweppes tonic with ice.”

It should be noted that he also enjoyed wine, especially his favorite white wine, Saint Saphorin from Lavaux.
