Here at Geeks Who Eat we always enjoy creating content for fandoms we’ve never visited. One of those fandoms is Percy Jackson. When we found out about Percy Jackson and the Olympians coming to Disney+, we knew this was our opportunity. With that, we are excited to share our guide to building a Medusa Gyros Party Platter!
In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, “Percy Jackson is on a dangerous quest. Outrunning monsters and outwitting gods, he must journey across America to return Zeus’ master bolt and stop an all-out war. After losing his mother, Percy is sheltered at Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigod children. He must prove himself and confront his origins once he discovers he too is a demigod, and will take off into the perils of pursuing enemies in search of the Underworld. With the help of his quest mates Annabeth and Grover, Percy’s journey will lead him closer to the answers he seeks: how to fit into a world where he feels out of place, if he’ll ever see his mother again, and if he can ever find out who he’s destined to be.”
The inspiration for this guide came from several places. We were inspired by the show’s source material, the Greek pantheon of gods and monsters, and Greek food. We also wanted to create something that could be put together for a watch party. One of the nice things about the gyros platter is that several ingredients can be purchased ready-made. The lettuce can be purchased already shredded, you can find tzatziki sauce in most grocery stores, and the gyros meat can be picked up from a restaurant or purchased from a grocery store/warehouse store.
We hope you try your hand at creating your very own Medusa Gyros Party Platter! The first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are now streaming on Disney+ with additional episodes coming weekly. Are you a Percy Jackson fan? Did you read the books? Let us know in the comments below!
Inspired by Disney+'s new show Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Geeks have put together a guide to create a Medusa themed gyros platter.
Ingredients
- Pita Bread
- Lettuce, shredded
- Tzatziki Sauce
- Gyros Meat
- Tomatoes, diced
- Purple Onion, sliced into thin strips
- Kalamata Olives, pitted and sliced in half
- Feta Cheese, crumbled
Instructions
- On a large serving dish or board, lay out a base of pita bread. (You want this to be fairly flat)
- On top of the pita, spoon tzatziki sauce into the shape of Medusa's face.
- Around the top of the head spread the lettuce.
- Arrange the olives into the snakes for her hair and as her eyes.
- Use the feta cheese to create Medusa's neck.
- Using the onion slices, shape Medusa's mouth, teeth, eyebrows, and nose. Also use them to enhance the olive snakes.
- Sprinkle more feta and tomatoes throughout.
- Fill the lower half of the board with gyros meat.
- Serve with additional pitas.
