Hey everybody have you heard the news? Joe Bob Briggs is returning to Shudder with a new summer special! Of course, this meant a recipe was needed. However, we decided to up our game and make a double feature of our own! The result is this fun Summer Sleepover Special Snack Pairing that features 2 of Joe Bob’s favorites, Yellowbird Hot Sauce and Lone Star Beer!
In The Last Drive-In: Summer Sleepover Special, “fire up the popcorn and slip into your PJs: Joe Bob Briggs, America’s foremost drive-in movie critic, is back for a special summer sleepover double-feature. Joining Joe Bob and Darcy in the trailer park will be director Adam Green (Frozen, Hatchet series) along with other surprise guests.”
Though he is a man of few words (even in interview form), we got lucky and have a fun interview to share! We interviewed none other than Yuki Nakamura! Below is our quick but insightful interview with the Last Drive-In’s painter of the Silver Bolo, production designer, and more!
- The Last Drive-In has become a mainstay on Shudder. How did you get involved?
I met John Brennan on another projects—Troma’s #ShakespearesShitstorm—and he knew The Last Drive-In producers. We hit it off, and the rest is history.
- What are some of your favorite memories from The Last Drive-In?
When I signed up, I never thought I’d wind up on camera. Getting a chance to be part of the show has been an unexpected joy.
- What are 3 movies you’d recommend for a night in at home and why?
Depends on the mood. Feeling like entertaining myself? Then something action or thriller: The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, and The Towering Inferno. Want to educate myself? Then I’d choose something artistic or a serious drama: 12 Angry Men, Death in Venice, and Pickpocket.
- We see that most of your credits include set design, art direction, and production design, what tips would you offer to someone who might be interested in the field?
Read lots—and watch even more! Soak up all you can and try to find inspiration in everything.
- Lastly, what is your comfort food?
Easy: Japanese and Chinese food!
Since this is the big Summer Sleepover Special at The Last Drive-In, we knew we had to go big. Not only do we have an awesome interview, but we have not 1, but 2, new recipes for you. Originally, we were going to just create a snack. However, every good sleepover needs a good drink. Thus our Summer Sleepover Special Snack Pairing was born! Below, we will also include the pdf of logos to make your own popcorn boxes and the link to the 3D Printer file to make your very own Drive-In Speaker cocktail pick!
As we mentioned above, to create this pairing, we used 2 of Joe Bob’s favorite ingredients: Yellowbird Habanero Hot Sauce and Lone Star Beer. Anyone can drink Lone Star Beer (if you can find it in your area), but we wanted to go further. We went with our take on a typical Lagerita (a beer and margarita hybrid). The snack mix is a combo of some of our favorite bar snacks. Add a bit of Yellowbird to that and you’re good to go!
We hope you enjoy making our Summer Sleepover Special Snack Pairing! If you are looking for more snack ideas, be sure to check out Joe Bob’s recipe for Redneck Power Bars! They are always a hit! Also, thank you again to Yuki for taking the time to speak with us! What movies have you loved on The Last Drive-In? What movies do you hope they show? Let us know in the comments below!
