Our 2nd recipe for Shudder‘s The Last Drive-In is inspired by one of our all-time favorite horror movies, Re-Animator! No matter how many times we have seen it, it is one movie that we can always go back to! It’s always an obvious choice to create a cocktail for this film but we wanted to do something a bit different. Instead of shots or some variation thereof, we have created a full sized cocktail, The Miskatonic Reviver! Just don’t drink too many of these or you may not make it through the marathon!
Re-Animator follows “a student who brings the dead back to life. Herbert West (the brilliant Jeffrey Combs) has just enrolled at a new school after an attempt to revive a former professor went very wrong. Convinced he’s on the verge of a breakthrough, West sneaks into the morgue and revives a corpse, and that’s where the terror—and comedy—begins.”

*Editors Note: This cocktail actually glows more of a turquoise color but this shot was too fun to not include.
We can’t lie. This cocktail was hard to create! Most of the ingredients that produce the appropriate color just don’t taste good. There needs to be a balance. In fact, this is why most recipes are for shots. However, much like Herbert West, we cracked the code! One of our first test runs was a variation of the Corpse Reviver (only the name stuck). We decided the absinthe was too much and came up with the current iteration. This version even pays tribute to Miskatonic’s origin with its use of Bittermen’s Boston Bittahs.
Sadly, our cocktail doesn’t glow green under black light (it is more of a turquoise color). However, without the black light, this cocktail is the vibrant green you’d expect from the serum. Either way, the Miskatonic Reviver is deceptively easy to drink! Don’t want a full cocktail or want to serve something boozy in a syringe? Well, we have the perfect recipe for you! Our pal Homicidal Homemaker has brewed up some delicious Re-Animator Reagent Serum Jelly Shots! Be sure to check them out!
2 recipes down and only 1 to go! Be sure to visit tomorrow for the last one! Just a reminder, The Last Drive-In will air on Shudder TV on Friday the 13th starting at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST. This means you only have a few days left to get the Shudder app before the Marathon. So if you haven’t already, head over to https://www.shudder.com and get signed up! We are getting so pumped for this! By the way, if you decide to make our recipes be sure to tag them with the hashtags #GeekEats and #JBBonShudder!

What liquors would you recommend using? Any idea if the Boston Bittahs can be picked up from a local store? I love the idea and the look and i’m hoping to spice up my birthday party this month with some Miskatonic Revivers!
We typically use whatever we have on hand in terms of spirits. Boston Bittahs would likely be available online or in a specialty liquor store. Hope this helps!
What kind of vodka did you use?
I don’t recall specifically, but any vodka will work.
