One of the most anticipated movies of 2017 was Jordan Peele’s Get Out (remember our Tea Leaf Shortbread Cookies?). Peele has returned to the director’s chair to bring us a new thriller, Us. We loved Get Out and can’t wait to see what horrors Jordan Peele has in store for viewers. We know we’ll probably need a drink after the movie so we’ve created a new cocktail called Something Sinister. Read on for the recipe and find out how you can see the movie early!
In Us, “Adelaide Wilson is a woman returning to her beachside childhood home with her husband Gabe and their two children for an idyllic summer getaway. Haunted by an unexplainable and unresolved trauma from her past and compounded by a string of eerie coincidences, Adelaide feels her paranoia elevate to high-alert as she grows increasingly certain that something bad is going to befall her family. After spending a tense beach day with their friends, the Tylers, Adelaide and her family return to their vacation home. When darkness falls, the Wilsons discover the silhouette of four figures holding hands as they stand in the driveway. This endearing American family is pitted against a terrifying and uncanny opponent: doppelgängers of themselves.”
The Something Sinister cocktail was inspired by the theme of there being something that lies beneath the surface. We used vodka because of the Vodka O’Clock reference in the trailer. The goal was to create a cocktail that was sort of beachy but darker in flavor. Additionally, the scissor shaped garnish takes it to the next level.
If you’ve gotten this far and dared to try our cocktail, now is your opportunity to see the movie that inspired it! We are giving away 5 pairs of VIP Advanced Screening Passes to an advanced showing of Us! The showing will be held at Harkins Tempe Marketplace on Tuesday, March 19th. The screening starts at 7 pm and the winners should arrive at 6:15 in order to guarantee their seating. Winners will be selected on Monday, March 18th. Good luck!
