In Doctor Sleep, “still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.”
So why french fries? Well if you’ll recall, in The Shining Danny tells Dick Hallorann that his favorite food is french fries and ketchup. Since Danny is an adult in Doctor Sleep, we thought it would be fun a put together a guide for “doctoring” up your fries at home. Mainly there are 3 ways to go about this: seasonings, sauces, and loaded style. Below we are going to go through some of our favorite ways to accomplish each type.
Seasoning is the easiest and least messy way to doctor up french fries. You could even do a french fry bar with a plethora of seasonings to select from. Some options we really enjoy are:
- Bay Seasoning (a tribute to Stephen King’s New England roots)
- Truffle Salt
- Taco Seasoning
- Jane’s Crazy Salt
- Cajun Seasoning
Sauces are a little bit messier than seasoning but are the closest to the original idea of ketchup and fries. That being said, you can really utilize sauces in two ways, tossing your fries in the sauce or dipping them. Here are some sauces that we enjoy:
- Pesto (toss your fries in a pesto sauce and top with parmesan cheese)
- Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
- Spicy BBQ Sauce
- Jalapeno Ketchup (literally the grown-up version of Danny’s favorite)
- Fancy Ranch (Salsa Ranch, Avocado Ranch, etc)
Loaded fries are probably the best way to eat fries. These aren’t going to be just a simple snack. In fact, you may even want to pull out a fork for them. However, the sky really is the limit with these! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Chicken Tikka Masala Fries (Chicken, Tikka Masala Sauce, Cilantro)
- Buffalo Chicken Fries (Chicken, Buffalo Sauce, Bleu Cheese)
- Taco Fries (Taco Seasoned Ground Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Shredded Tomato, Lettuce, Sour Cream, Guacamole)
- Pizza Fries (Pizza Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Pepperoni)
- Chili Cheese Fries (Bean Free Chili, Cheddar Cheese, Onion)
- Poutine (Beef Gravy, Cheese Curds)
We bet you didn’t think that there were so many delicious ways to eat french fries, did you? However, that’s not all! We are giving away 5 pairs of VIP Advanced Screening Passes to an advanced showing of Doctor Sleep! The showing will be held at Harkins Camelview at Scottsdale Fashion Square on Tuesday, November 5th.
