One of the most intriguing and polarizing movies of the fall is Warner Bros. Joker. We are huge Batman fans so this film really has a lot to live up to. That being said, we couldn’t let this title pass by without creating a recipe for it. We came up with a riff on a classic cocktail called Smile Though Your Heart is Aching.
Joker “centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.”
The Smile Though Your Heart is Aching Cocktail is a riff on the classic Bijou Cocktail. Instead of using sweet vermouth we decided to go with Lilet Blanc. This gave us a better color theme as well as a more interesting flavor. If you aren’t able to find AZ Bitters Lab Orange Sunshine Bitters, standard orange bitters will work.
In addition to our Joker inspired cocktail recipe, we are giving away 5 pairs of VIP Advanced Screening Passes to an advanced showing of Joker! The showing will be held at IMAX Arizona Mills on Tuesday, October 1st. The screening starts at 7 pm and the winners should arrive at 6:15 in order to guarantee their seating. Winners will be selected on Thursday, September 26th. Good luck! Also, let us know your favorite Joker in the comments below!

- 3/4 oz Lilet Blanc
- 3/4 oz Green Chartreuse

My favorite joker portrayal has been Mark Hamill. Between the animated series and the Killing Joke he has been the Joker for me.

My favorite joker is Jack Nicholson only because he was crazy. It was okay for him to be crazy. And I resonated with that.
