14 Spooky Starters for a Spine-Chilling Halloween Movie Night

Now that fall is officially here, it is time to start planning for Halloween! It should come as no surprise at this point, but we LOVE Halloween. With everything going on and Halloween being a little different this year, we thought it would be fun to do a series of round-ups.  We want to help you, our readers, plan the perfect Halloween Movie Night at home!

We’ve gone through the vast archive of recipes here on Geeks Who Eat and rounded up ALL of our horror movie-themed appetizers. Hopefully, this makes planning a great Halloween Movie Night a little easier! So let’s get started!

• Tall Oaks Tea Sandwiches (Mixtape Massacre)– Looking for something a little more filling than a snack? Our Mixtape Massacre inspired Tall Oaks Tea Sandwiches are just the thing! Not only that, but there are even vegan and vegetarian options!
• The Last Drive-In: Summer Sleepover Special Snack Mix (The Last Drive-In)– Chips, pretzels, AND popcorn? All in one mix? Yep. You read that right! Don’t forget the Yellowbird Habanero peanuts! This snack mix has something for everyone and is addicting!
• Blood-Spattered Pumpkin Seeds (Halloween 2018)– Looking for something a bit more seasonal? How about Blood-Spattered Pumpkin Seeds? This recipe is both salty and spicy. How can you have Halloween without pumpkin seeds?! Now you don’t have to waste them after carving your pumpkin!
• Romanian Mezaluri Board (The Nun)– Who says charcuterie has to be the same old cheese and crackers? Get adventurous by throwing together a Romanian Mezaluri Board! After all, any charcuterie board that has head cheese is right on theme for Halloween!
• Meg-a Shrimp Cocktail (The Meg)– Maybe aquatic horror is more your thing. Our recipe for Meg-a Shrimp Cocktail is not only easy but delicious as well! You won’t be able to get enough of the cocktail sauce! We guarantee it!
• Redneck Power Bars (The Last Drive-In)– These Redneck Power Bars from Joe Bob Briggs have become a movie night staple in our home. They are so delicious! Be sure to have some antacids on hand though, the heat of the Yellowbird Habanero Hot Sauce will get you!
• Truth or Taters (Truth or Dare)– Want to make your Halloween downright creepy? Add some crickets! Our Truth or Taters recipe is a creepy-crawly concoction that doesn’t taste nearly as gross as people think. In fact, crickets really don’t have much taste at all!
• Allergy-Free “Mixed Nuts” (All the Creatures Were Stirring)– If you need a snack that is mostly allergen-free (it does still have seeds) this is a great option. Inca corn is like corn nuts on steroids and is delicious! Despite being a recipe for a Christmas horror movie, it still has pumpkin seeds that still work for the season!
• All the Meats Sliders (Leatherface 2017)– These All the Meats Sliders are another very filling appetizer. This makes them a fantastic star to an evening of appetizers. What is even better is that you can get bbq from your favorite restaurant or make it yourself! It’s super customizeable!
• Smoked Salmon and Dill Deviled Eggs (The Shape of Water)– An appetizer round up is nothing if you don’t include at least one deviled egg recipe. We have not failed you and ours are even horror adjacent! The Shape of Water is one of our favorite movies and the flavor profile on these eggs is one of our favorites as well!
• Samara’s Sweet Potatoes (Rings)– While Rings may not have been our favorite movie in the American franchise, we do really enjoy this recipe! Not only does it taste good but the purple potatoes definitely create a striking visual for your appetizer table!
• Sawyer Family Roast Beef Bites (Texas Chain Saw Massacre)– It’s always meat when it come to recipes inspired by Texas Chain Saw Massacre. These bites are such an easy thing to whip up and no chainsaws are required!
• Planchette Tea Sandwiches (Ouija: Origin of Evil)– Another tea sandwich recipe that would would be perfectly paired with our Tall Oaks Tea Sandwiches!
• Freddy’ Espresso Rubbed Flank Steak Bites (Nightmare on Elm Street)– These steak bites are one of our most popular recipes. Any time we serve them at a party, they are a hit. We can never seem to make enough. They also make great tacos if you are trying to make a main dish!
